Eric Wayne Curtis, a 37-year-old male of Black ethnicity, tragically lost his life on June 29, 2021, in Houston, Texas. Curtis was fatally shot at a motel located at 9797 North Freeway service road around 3 p.m. He was then driven a few blocks south to a gas station at 9351 North Freeway, where paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene.
The Houston Police Department responded to the incident and launched an investigation.
On July 2, 2021, Derrick Thompson, a 41-year-old male, was arrested and charged with Curtis's murder. Thompson was taken into custody and later charged in the 232nd State District Court. The investigation revealed that Thompson was the suspect in Curtis's death, but the motive behind the shooting remains unknown.
The case has been handled by the HPD Homicide Division, with Sergeant R. Montalvo and Detective E. Martinez leading the investigation. Curtis is remembered fondly by his family and friends for his love of dancing, music, and water fights. He leaves behind his mother Barbara Curtis, father Alfred Wilson-Jackson Jr., step-father David Matthews, daughter Chole Lange, and numerous other family members and friends.
