On September 23, 2023, 20-year-old Houston resident Kwana Bunkley was fatally shot in the 17100 block of Cali Drive. Earlier that day, Bunkley had cashed a $7,000 settlement check from a previous accident and posted a video on social media displaying the cash. His mother, Brandi Telfor, believes this public display made him a target for robbery.

According to investigators, Bunkley and his girlfriend provided a ride to 17-year-old Cory James, whom Bunkley considered a friend. During the ...
