In the early hours of January 2, 2024, the life of 18-year-old William Rafael Silva was tragically cut short in Nashville, Tennessee. Two individuals in a black SUV left him at Southern Hills Medical Center around 1 a.m. with multiple gunshot wounds. Medical personnel were unable to save him, and he succumbed to his injuries a short time later. The individuals who brought him to the hospital left immediately after, sparking an intensive investigation by Homicide Unit detectives.
The
investigation revealed that the young man, a resident of South Nashville, was the victim of a robbery that turned fatal. The shooting occurred at the intersection of Tusculum Court and Ocala Drive. For months, the case remained a priority for law enforcement as they worked to identify those responsible for Nashville's first murder of the calendar year.
In August 2024, a significant breakthrough occurred in the case, leading to the apprehension of two suspects. The first to be taken into custody was Gabriel Melo-Beltran, who was 18 at the time of his arrest in Murfreesboro. Shortly after, his alleged accomplice, Htet Sar, also 18, was arrested in Antioch. Investigators determined that both suspects were 17 years old at the time of the fatal shooting. Due to their ages when the crime was committed, they are facing charges in Juvenile Court for their alleged involvement in the robbery and murder of William Rafael Silva.
