In the early spring of a Monday evening in Nashville, Tennessee, the life of 16-year-old Henry C. Taylor was tragically cut short. On March 4, 2024, in the 500 block of Lemont Drive, the sound of multiple gunshots shattered the night around 8:30 p.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the young male lying in the street, suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest.
Emergency services transported Henry to Skyline Medical Center, but his injuries proved fatal, and he died
at the hospital. Investigators from the Homicide Unit determined that there had been an apparent exchange of gunfire between separate parties at the location. The motive for the shooting and the reasons for Henry's presence in that area remained under investigation. The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department sought assistance from the public, asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
As the investigation progressed, police sought to identify juveniles connected to the fatal shooting. Evidence analyzed by the MNPD Crime Lab from the scene on Lemont Drive ultimately linked 17-year-old Jakari Pirtle to the exchange of gunfire. In a significant development, detectives charged Pirtle with a second murder, having already been jailed for the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Emanuel Scott in February 2024. For his alleged involvement in Henry Taylor's death, Jakari Pirtle was indicted as an adult on a charge of 2nd-degree murder.
