In the early morning hours of October 10, 2019, a tragic series of events unfolded in Nashville, Tennessee, culminating in the death of 24-year-old Cordero Crowder. Crowder, a male, was discovered critically injured and lying in the roadway on Crislynndale Drive near Moorewood Drive at approximately 1:00 a.m. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
Investigations by Madison Precinct detectives revealed a complex and violent backstory to Crowder's final moments.
Earlier that evening, around 11:20 p.m., Crowder and a 20-year-old man named Kevontae Hammonds were in a parking lot at 721 Due West Avenue when they were targeted by gunfire from a passing vehicle. In what appears to have been an attempt to find those responsible, Crowder and Hammonds later drove in Crowder's 2007 Nissan Murano to the 3300 block of Creekwood Drive. It was there that Crowder was reportedly shot in the head while he was behind the wheel.
Following the shooting, Hammonds, who was the front seat passenger, stated that he drove the vehicle to Crislynndale Drive. It was on this street that he pushed the mortally wounded Crowder out of the SUV. First responders arrived to find Crowder in the road. He was immediately transported to Skyline Medical Center, but his injuries proved too severe, and he succumbed to them at the hospital.
The investigation into the identity of the person or persons responsible for the gunfire that led to Cordero Crowder's death is ongoing. Authorities have continued to seek information from the public to piece together the complete sequence of events and bring those involved to justice. At the time of the initial reports, no arrests had been made in direct connection with the fatal shooting.
