On September 7, 2023, a hiker discovered the body of 33-year-old Christopher Jesse Johnson in a wooded area near the Walmart off U.S. 15-501, close to the Chatham-Orange county line near Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Johnson's body was located approximately 12 feet from a creek, in proximity to a small homeless encampment. Personal items, including his wristwatch, shoe, and shirt, were found scattered nearby.
