On January 9, 2023, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Chapel Hill Police responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting in the 300 block of South Estes Drive Extension, a public housing community in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of 27-year-old K’son Lamoriquia Thorpe, a resident of Oxford, North Carolina, in the parking lot. Thorpe had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
