On May 15, 2023, at approximately 5:33 p.m., 18-year-old Jerome Burleigh was fatally shot in front of a residence at 1303 Commonwealth Avenue in the Soundview neighborhood of the Bronx. Responding officers from the 43rd Precinct found Burleigh unconscious and unresponsive, with a gunshot wound to his torso. Emergency Medical Services transported him to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, where he was pronounced dead.
