In the East End of Richmond, Virginia, a dispute at a grocery store on an April evening tragically cut short the life of 38-year-old Patrick Jenkins. On April 9, 2023, Jenkins was shot and killed in the 1900 block of Mechanicsville Turnpike. The male victim had only recently moved to Richmond just a week before his untimely death.
The events of that evening unfolded following a confrontation that escalated to fatal violence.
Responding to the incident, Richmond Police identified Patrick Jenkins as the deceased. An investigation into the homicide was launched, and authorities began searching for the person responsible for the shooting.
Less than ten days after the fatal shooting, the Richmond Police Department made an arrest in connection with the case. On April 18, 2023, Roderick Bugg, a 34-year-old resident of Richmond, was apprehended in the Whitcomb Court neighborhood. Authorities had received a tip from community members that Bugg, who was a suspect in Jenkins's death, was in a residence nearby. He surrendered to law enforcement without incident. Initially held on charges related to the shooting, Bugg's charges were later upgraded to murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
