In the cold winter of 2014, the life of Rodney Darnell Ruffin Sr., a 56-year-old African American man, was tragically cut short in what remains an unsolved chapter in Richmond, Virginia's history. On the evening of Wednesday, February 5, 2014, authorities responded to a call in the Manchester neighborhood of the city's southside. There, in the 100 block of West 9th Street, near a local market at the intersection with Bainbridge Street, Ruffin was found with a fatal gunshot wound.
