In the early morning hours of November 10, 2018, the life of 27-year-old Treviyon Lamonta Hill of Smithfield, Virginia, was tragically cut short. Inside a residence on the 900 block of North King Street in Hampton, Hill was discovered suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the arrival of emergency responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The events of that morning were chaotic and unfolded in two separate but connected incidents.
Around 4:53 a.m., two other gunshot victims
arrived at Sentara CarePlex Hospital. One of these men, 24-year-old Eric Caesar Witherspoon Jr. of Newport News, succumbed to his injuries and died shortly after his arrival. The second individual, a 29-year-old Hampton man, was treated for his injuries and subsequently released. Initially, law enforcement treated these as two distinct investigations. However, it soon became clear that all three men had been shot at the North King Street residence.
In the immediate aftermath of the double homicide, Hampton Police arrested 29-year-old Jazz Kwame Grant of Hampton on the same day as the shooting. Grant was not charged with the murders but faced a single count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was taken into custody and held at the Hampton City Jail. Court records from 2022 indicate that Grant was convicted of this charge and sentenced to a mandatory minimum of five years in prison.
Despite the arrest of Grant on the weapons charge, the investigation into the deaths of Treviyon Lamonta Hill and Eric Caesar Witherspoon Jr. has remained ongoing. Authorities have not publicly identified any other suspects or made further arrests in connection with the homicides.
