In the winter of 2020, the life of 18-year-old Jaquan Tisdale was tragically cut short in a burst of violence inside a building in Hampton, Virginia. On the afternoon of February 10th, police responded to a report of a shooting on Research Drive, a street that lies in the shadow of NASA Langley Research Center. Arriving at the scene, first responders discovered a grim tableau. Jaquan Tisdale was found deceased, having succumbed to his gunshot wounds.
Another man, aged 36, was also found with gunshot injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was fortunate to have survived the ordeal, eventually being released after his recovery.
The investigation into the homicide stretched on for nearly five months before a significant breakthrough was made. In early July, Hampton police announced the arrest of a 17-year-old male in connection with the fatal shooting. The teenage suspect was taken into custody and faced a string of serious charges that painted a picture of a robbery gone horribly wrong. He was charged with one count of felony homicide, one count of attempted robbery, one count of conspiracy to commit a felony, and one count of the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Following his arrest, the juvenile suspect was held at a local detention facility.
