Breyon Christian Rooks, known as 'Breezy,' was a 21-year-old man from Hampton, Virginia, whose life was cut short on Friday, August 12, 2016. On that evening, police were called to the 1800 block of Walkers Landing Lane at 10:38 p.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Breyon Rooks suffering from a single gunshot wound.
An investigation into the circumstances of the shooting determined that Rooks had been handling a firearm when it discharged, striking him.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Hampton police concluded that the shooting was accidental, and there was no indication of foul play. Consequently, there were no arrests made or suspects sought in connection with his death.
Born in Newport News, Virginia, on April 6, 1995, Breyon was a 2013 graduate of Phoebus High School. He was an active member of his community, involved in the Kappa Leadership and Development League where he participated in various volunteer activities, including community service and educational development programs. He was survived by his parents, a sister, and a brother. A celebration of his life was held on August 20, 2016, at the Empowered Believers Christian Learning Center in Hampton.
