On a summer evening in Hampton, Virginia, the life of 18-year-old Kare Stallings was cut tragically short. On August 9, 2015, police responded to a call of shots fired and discovered Stallings behind the Y.H. Thomas Community Center on Thomas Street around 8:30 p.m. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the death of the Hampton man quickly pointed to a suspect who was known to him.
A few days later, on August 13, 18-year-old Zuri Anthony Reeves of Newport News turned himself into the Hampton Police headquarters. Reeves was subsequently arrested and charged with one count of murder and one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. While investigators confirmed that Stallings and Reeves were acquainted, a motive for the shooting was not publicly released.
Kare Stallings, born on August 27, 1996, was remembered as a gifted athlete and an aspiring rapper. A devoted father to two sons, he was described as a talented individual whose personality endeared him to many. His sudden death left behind a large and loving family, including his parents, siblings, and his own young children, who now cherish his memory.
