In what began as a routine welfare check, the life of 73-year-old Arthur Jackson of Hampton, Virginia, came to a tragic and violent end. On a Saturday evening, police were dispatched to Jackson's residence on Newport News Avenue to check on his well-being. There, they were met by his 18-year-old grandson, Kyron Jackson.
Initially, Kyron Jackson attempted to mislead the officers, telling them that his grandfather was simply asleep and could not come to the door.
However, he eventually allowed them to enter the home. Inside, the officers made a grim discovery in a back bedroom. Arthur Jackson was found in his bed, unresponsive and covered in blood, having sustained both gunshot and stab wounds.
Faced with the discovery of his grandfather's body, Kyron Jackson reportedly put his arms behind his back for officers to arrest him and admitted that he knew what had happened. He confessed to both stabbing and shooting his grandfather. Subsequent investigation by the Hampton police led to the recovery of the knife used in the attack, and Jackson informed detectives that the gun could be found in the freezer.
The motive for the killing is believed to have stemmed from a domestic-related verbal altercation that escalated to violence. Neighbors were left in shock, remembering Arthur Jackson as a kind and helpful man who would assist with yard work and building projects. One neighbor expressed disbelief, stating that he was 'by far the last person you would think anything would happen to.' Kyron Jackson has been charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
