In the early morning hours of a summer Sunday, the life of 20-year-old Jeffrey Swiney Jr. was cut short by gunfire in Richmond, Virginia. On July 11, 2021, in a parking lot in the 1900 block of West Main Street, a dispute escalated into a fatal encounter. Swiney, a male who had recently graduated from a local high school and was known for his love of football, was shot and killed. The incident, which unfolded around 2 a.m., left another man wounded and a community searching for answers.
