Mozelle Leon Spencer, a 78-year-old Black man, was employed as a night clerk at the Eggleston Motel in Richmond, Virginia. On the night of April 9, 1966, he was attacked and fatally shot while on duty. His body was discovered on the second-floor landing of the motel, with blood stains leading from the office desk up the stairs to where he lay.
