In the early morning hours of November 6, 2016, a life was tragically cut short in Richmond, Virginia. William D. Norwood, a 30-year-old African-American male known affectionately as 'Noony,' was found with a fatal gunshot wound on Hull Street in the city's Southside. The incident occurred around 1:14 a.m., shortly after Norwood had been at a dance club.
He had just celebrated his birthday a week prior.
Responding to reports of gunfire, Richmond Police discovered Norwood, who was in the early stages of transitioning to living as a transgender woman. Despite the efforts of first responders, he succumbed to his injuries. The case sent ripples through the community, leaving friends and family to mourn the loss of a person described as a great friend and son.
In the years following the shooting, the investigation into William D. Norwood's death has remained ongoing, yet unsolved, turning into a cold case. The individual is described as a Black male, believed to be between 30 and 40 years old, standing approximately 6'2' to 6'4' tall, and weighing around 290 pounds.
