In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Richmond, Virginia, tragedy struck and a life was abruptly cut short. Dwight Wright, a 31-year-old male, found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. On February 18, 2024, at approximately 3:22 a.m., police were called to the 300 block of West Broad Street following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a scene of violence that had shattered the late-night quiet.
Wright was found unresponsive on the sidewalk, having
sustained a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident, which police later determined stemmed from an altercation, also resulted in another adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. This second individual was transported to a local hospital by a private vehicle.
In the days that followed, detectives with the Richmond Police Department worked to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. Their investigation quickly led them to a suspect. On Tuesday, just two days after the incident, officers from the First Precinct's Focus Mission Team took 18-year-old Aaron Marcus of Richmond into custody.
Marcus was subsequently charged in connection with the double shooting. The initial charges filed against him were malicious wounding and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Authorities indicated that additional charges were pending as the investigation into the death of Dwight Wright continued. The case highlights the devastating impact of gun violence and the swift actions taken by law enforcement to apprehend a suspect.
