Shemar L. Howlett, a 21-year-old Black/African American male, tragically lost his life on the night of March 6, 2022, in Richmond, Virginia. The evening was shattered by the sound of gunfire, and when Richmond Police officers responded to the reports of shots fired in the 1100 block of North 20th Street at approximately 10:12 p.m., they discovered a devastating scene.
Shemar was found at the location with a fatal gunshot wound.
In the immediate vicinity, at the intersection of Mosby and Littlepage streets, another young man, 19-year-old Isaiah James, was also found, having succumbed to gunshot wounds from the same incident. The violent deaths of these two young men, who were both from the Petersburg and North Chesterfield areas, sent ripples of grief through their communities. The motive behind the shooting has not been released to the public as the investigation continues.
In the wake of the double homicide, the Richmond Police Department has been actively investigating the case. They have appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the identification and apprehension of the person or persons responsible for the deaths of Shemar Howlett and Isaiah James.
