Jose Cruz Del Cid, a 42-year-old Hispanic male, was fatally shot on the night of September 4, 2024, in Stafford, Virginia, near Fredericksburg. The incident occurred on Hulls Chapel Road following a domestic dispute.
That evening, at approximately 11:06 p.m., deputies from the Stafford County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the residence after receiving multiple reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they encountered a Ford Mustang attempting to leave the scene.
A high-risk traffic stop was conducted, and the driver, a 17-year-old male, was taken into custody. A firearm was discovered in his possession.
Inside the residence, deputies found Jose Cruz Del Cid suffering from a single gunshot wound. Despite life-saving efforts by the deputies and subsequently by Fire and Rescue personnel, Del Cid succumbed to his injury and was pronounced dead at 11:25 p.m.
Investigations into the shooting revealed that Del Cid had been engaged in an argument with another family member. The 17-year-old, who was also present, intervened in the altercation and shot Del Cid. The teenage suspect was arrested and has been charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is currently being held at a juvenile detention facility.
