On January 11, 1959, Carroll Vernon Jackson, a 29-year-old White male, was traveling with his wife, Mildred Jackson, and their two young daughters, Susan Anne and Janet, along a dirt road in Virginia when they were abducted at gunpoint. The family had been returning home from a visit with relatives when they were forced to stop. Their car was later discovered abandoned, with the keys still in the ignition, Mildred’s purse left on the seat, and dolls scattered inside the vehicle.
