There, Rodney Beanum Jr., a 28-year-old man, was found lifeless, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The initial discovery launched an investigation into what would be revealed as a robbery that had spiraled into a fatal encounter, cutting short a young man's life and setting in motion a chain of events that would lead to the arrest of four individuals.
The narrative of that fateful night began to unfold as investigators pieced together the preceding hours. A plan was hatched amongst four men—Wesley Carlton Smith, John Pegram, Diontae T. Washington, and Lorenzo M. Jones—to commit a robbery. They targeted Beanum at a local lounge and followed him to the Mayfield neighborhood. There, they surrounded his vehicle, forcing both Beanum and a passenger out at gunpoint. What started as a robbery escalated with brutal swiftness, ending with Beanum being shot multiple times.
