On June 6, 2008, Fredericksburg Police Officer Todd Allen Bahr, aged 40, was tragically killed in the line of duty. Officer Bahr was responding to a call regarding an armed suspect, Gregory Berryman, who had been making threatening phone calls to his former girlfriend. The incident began around 8:30 p.m. when officers were first called to the woman's apartment in the Commons at Cowan Boulevard complex. Berryman was reported to be outside the apartment brandishing a handgun.
