On a tragic evening in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, just outside of Fredericksburg, the life of 18-year-old Alonzo Goffney was cut short. The African American male was fatally shot on April 8, 2025, in a violent incident that also claimed the lives of two other young men, 18-year-old Chase Feaster and 19-year-old Sincere Devon Fitz, all residents of Spotsylvania County. The shooting, which erupted around 5:30 p.m. on Olde Greenwich Circle, is believed by law enforcement to have stemmed from an illegal gun sale that escalated into a robbery.
The chaotic scene was marked by sporadic gunfire that struck nearby homes and vehicles, prompting numerous calls to 911. Witnesses reported seeing several young men armed with firearms in the moments leading up to the shooting. In the midst of the violence, a neighbor intervened by firing at one of the armed individuals, wounding a 16-year-old suspect.
When deputies from the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office arrived, they discovered multiple gunshot victims. In total, three young men were killed, and three others were injured in the melee.
In the aftermath of the shooting, an intensive investigation led to the swift apprehension of four suspects. The individuals taken into custody included 18-year-old Jeremiah Upson of Caroline County, along with three juveniles: two 16-year-olds and a 17-year-old. All four have been charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and unlawful assembly. Three of the suspects were taken into custody and are being held without bond.
The fourth suspect, a 16-year-old who was wounded during the incident, was hospitalized for his injuries. Upon his release from the hospital, he was transferred to the Rappahannock Regional Juvenile Detention Center, where he is also being held without bond. The investigation into the deadly shooting continues, with the possibility of additional charges being filed as more evidence is processed. The community was left to mourn the loss of three young lives, a tragic outcome of a gun deal gone violently wrong.
