In the quiet community of Spotsylvania County, Virginia, a burst of gunfire on April 8, 2025, shattered the evening peace and ended the life of 19-year-old Sincere Devon Fitz. The tragic incident, which also claimed the lives of two other teenagers, unfolded in the Olde Greenwich Circle area, leaving a neighborhood in shock and a family to grapple with a devastating loss. Sincere Devon Fitz was a male resident of Spotsylvania.
What was supposed to be an illicit transaction, an illegal sale of a firearm, spiraled into a scene of robbery and deadly violence. When law enforcement arrived at the scene around 5:30 p.m., they discovered a chaotic aftermath with multiple individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Three young men, including Fitz, were pronounced dead, while three others were injured in the shootout. Witnesses in the vicinity described hearing what sounded like a machine gun, a terrifying testament to the intensity of the event.
In the wake of the violence, the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the Fredericksburg Police Department and Virginia State Police, launched a thorough investigation that quickly led to the identification and apprehension of four suspects. Among those taken into custody was 18-year-old Jeremiah Upson of Caroline County, along with three other juveniles: two 16-year-olds and a 17-year-old. One of the 16-year-old suspects was hospitalized with a gunshot wound sustained during the incident before being released into custody.
All four individuals face serious charges, including malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and unlawful assembly. The suspects were held without bond as the community began to mourn the young lives lost.
