In the early morning hours of June 20, 2015, the life of 25-year-old Tesean Jemel Dorsey was tragically cut short in Fredericksburg, Virginia. A Black/African American male, Dorsey was asleep in his bedroom at the Fall Hill Apartments on Greystone Court when he was fatally wounded by a gunshot to the head. The events of that morning began to unfold around 4:25 a.m. when police responded to reports of gunfire in the area. Officers discovered two bullet holes in a wall on a staircase landing but were initially unable to pinpoint the source of the shots. It wasn't until approximately 8 a.m. that a resident of the apartment complex discovered Dorsey's body and alerted the authorities.
The investigation into Dorsey's death quickly gained momentum as the Fredericksburg Police Department began processing the scene and interviewing potential witnesses. Their efforts led to the identification of four suspects. Three individuals, 19-year-old Nykema Barnett, 20-year-old Anthony Correa, and 18-year-old Derrick Morton, were taken into custody in early July. All three were charged with felony shooting into an occupied dwelling. The investigation continued as police sought a fourth suspect, 21-year-old Kareem Rose, who was considered armed and dangerous and had outstanding warrants from Stafford and Tennessee.
The search for the final suspect concluded in December 2015 when Kareem Rose of Bristol, Virginia, was arrested with the assistance of the Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office. Rose was also charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling and was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail. The arrests brought a sense of progress to the investigation into the senseless death of Tesean Dorsey, a young man who was killed in his sleep.
