In the early morning hours of Saturday, December 14, 2024, the lively atmosphere of downtown Fredericksburg, Virginia, was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Twenty-three-year-old male, Tyler Lee Jones, was fatally shot following an altercation. The incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. in the 400 block of William Street, an area known for its nightlife. Responding to the gunshots, Fredericksburg Police officers discovered Jones on Charles Street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency aid was rendered at the scene before he was transported to a local hospital, where he was ultimately pronounced dead.
The investigation into the death of Tyler Lee Jones, a Fredericksburg resident, led to the swift identification of multiple suspects. Police indicated the shooting stemmed from a dispute between individuals who were known to one another. The day after the shooting, Izaiah Jabbar Daniels, a 21-year-old from Woodford, was arrested during a traffic stop in Orange County. He was charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
As the investigation progressed, more individuals were implicated in Jones's death. A second suspect, 22-year-old Elijah Musgrove of Martinsburg, West Virginia, surrendered to authorities days later. He faced charges of second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Shortly thereafter, a third suspect, 22-year-old Eric Costley of Spotsylvania, was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and aggravated malicious wounding.
In the following weeks, the investigation led to a fourth arrest. Daquan Warren, 24, of Woodford, was taken into custody on January 17, 2025, by the Caroline County Sheriff's Office. He was charged with second-degree murder and using a firearm in the commission of a felony. All four suspects were held in custody as the legal process began, leaving a community to mourn the violent loss of a young man.
