On the evening of April 1, 2023, 69-year-old Darlene Briscoe, a Black female, was tragically killed in a quadruple shooting in Northeast Baltimore. The incident unfolded on Woodring Avenue, where police responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 8:43 p.m. Upon their arrival, officers discovered a violent scene with four individuals having been shot.
Two men, 41-year-old Girard Smith and 49-year-old Charles Murray, were found deceased at the location.
Darlene Briscoe and another 31-year-old woman were rushed to a nearby hospital for their injuries. Despite medical efforts, Briscoe succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The 31-year-old woman, who was also critically injured, survived the attack.
The investigation into the deadly shooting quickly led Baltimore Police to identify 48-year-old Marvelle Antonio Worsley as the suspect. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was considered armed and dangerous. On April 19, 2023, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Worsley in Baltimore County. He was subsequently charged with three counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted first-degree murder, and various handgun violations.
Following his arrest, Marvelle Worsley was held without bond. In what prosecutors described as a 'multi-generational massacre' stemming from a neighborhood dispute, Worsley was later convicted for his role in the killings. His conviction included one count of second-degree murder and two counts of manslaughter. For his crimes, Worsley was sentenced to a maximum of 185 years in prison, with all but 40 years suspended.
