A sense of normalcy was shattered on the morning of February 20, 2023, in a West Baltimore neighborhood. Renyse Michelle Jones, a 41-year-old Black female, was on a porch in the 2700 block of West North Avenue when gunfire erupted. The mid-morning violence left Jones with multiple gunshot wounds to her head and upper body.
Baltimore Police Department officers from the Southwest District responded to the scene at approximately 10:41 a.m. after receiving a ShotSpotter alert.
They discovered the gravely injured Jones and she was quickly transported to a local hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Homicide detectives immediately began an investigation into the deadly shooting. In the days following the incident, authorities reached out to the public for assistance, hoping to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. Metro Crime Stoppers of Maryland announced a reward of up to $8,000 for any information that would lead to an arrest and conviction in the case.
However, the investigation into the death of Renyse Michelle Jones has not yet led to a public announcement of any suspects or arrests. The case remains open, and the circumstances surrounding her death are still under active investigation by the Baltimore Police Department's Homicide unit. Authorities continue to urge anyone with information to come forward.
