On October 27, 2023, at approximately 4:00 p.m., officers from the Maryland-National Capital Park Police responded to a reported shooting at Old Fort Hills Park in the 2300 block of Old Fort Road, Fort Washington, Maryland. Upon arrival, they discovered 30-year-old Desmond Donnell Thomas suffering from gunshot and stab wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene. A second adult male victim was also found with a gunshot wound; his injuries were not considered life-threatening.
