In the quiet residential neighborhood of Fort Washington, Maryland, the life of 29-year-old Jether Bonds was tragically cut short on the night of July 24, 2021. Around 11:50 p.m., the sound of gunfire shattered the calm on the 6800 block of Cherryfield Road. When police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Jether Bonds outside a house, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Despite the immediate response, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial investigation into the death of the Fort Washington man pointed towards a violent robbery. Detectives from the Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit worked to piece together the events of that fatal night. Their efforts eventually led them to identify three individuals connected to the shooting.
In a significant development, three suspects were taken into custody. The adult suspects were identified as 19-year-old Kyle Moorehead of Oxon Hill and 20-year-old Zion Wormley of Capitol Heights. The third individual arrested was a 17-year-old male. Authorities announced that all three suspects would be charged as adults in connection with the death of Jether Bonds. The preliminary findings of the investigation suggested that the motive behind the deadly shooting was a drug-related robbery. Each of the three suspects faces charges of first-degree murder and other related offenses. Following their arrest, they were held in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
