In the early morning hours of January 13, 2024, a burst of gunfire shattered the predawn quiet in an Oklahoma City parking lot, tragically ending the life of 22-year-old Jacqueline Luna Garcia. The Hispanic female was sitting in her vehicle outside the Paladar Cubano, a bar located near Southwest 29th Street and Youngs Avenue, when the shooting occurred at approximately 4:15 a.m. Struck by the gunfire, she was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
Her death was the city's third homicide of the year.
An investigation into the shooting revealed that an altercation had taken place in the bar's parking lot shortly before the fatal incident. According to reports, a man who had been assaulted by several individuals left the scene with threats of returning to retaliate. A vehicle returned to the location a short time later, and a passenger, identified as 27-year-old Ahsan Nadeem Malik, allegedly opened fire in the direction of the bar, striking and killing Luna Garcia.
On January 18, 2024, authorities arrested Ahsan Nadeem Malik, charging him with first-degree murder in connection with Jacqueline Luna Garcia's death. His bond was set at $10 million. The investigation further implicated two of Malik's associates, Nadir and Nabir Khan, who are believed to have fled to Pakistan following the shooting. Their father, Mohammed Sherzaman, was also charged with accessory to murder for allegedly helping his sons leave the country and advising Malik on how to evade law enforcement.
