On June 1, 2024, at approximately 12:58 a.m., the Lafayette Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in the 3800 block of West Congress Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 38-year-old Corey James Lapoint of Lafayette suffering from multiple gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
