On March 7, 2023, Walker Lewis Whatley III, a 19-year-old, was fatally shot in Indianapolis, Indiana. The incident occurred outside the former Thomas Carr Howe High School, which is located in the Irvington neighborhood on the city's east side. At the time of the shooting, a basketball game was taking place inside the building, although it was not an IPS-sponsored event.
