On the morning of March 16, 2023, a violent sequence of events at the Parc Lorraine apartment complex in Lithonia, Georgia, culminated in the tragic death of 30-year-old Michael McBride. The incident began with an attempted home invasion, during which a shootout erupted in the parking lot of the complex. Authorities report that several individuals were involved in firing weapons and attempting to forcibly enter an apartment by kicking down the door. It was during this chaos that McBride was fatally shot.
Investigators identified three men as suspects in the murder of the young father of two. The first to be apprehended was 33-year-old Alphonson Pitts of Atlanta, who was arrested in March 2023. This was followed by the arrest of 37-year-old Deon Davis, also from Atlanta, in November 2023. Both men were charged with murder and aggravated assault for their alleged roles in firing weapons in the parking lot and the attempted break-in.
The final suspect, 26-year-old Stephan Jamel Stewart of Atlanta, was taken into custody on April 17, 2024, by the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Unit with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Office. Stewart faces a litany of charges, including murder, aggravated assault, first-degree burglary, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or first offender probationer. All three suspects are being held without bond at the DeKalb County Jail as they await legal proceedings.
