In the early evening of Saturday, February 4, 2023, the life of 25-year-old Darnell Peoples was tragically cut short. At approximately 7:17 p.m., in the 3600 block of 22nd Street in Southeast Washington, D.C., Mr. Peoples was shot and killed. The Metropolitan Police Department is actively investigating the homicide and has reached out to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of those responsible for his death.
As of now, no arrests have been publicly announced in connection with the shooting.
Darnell Nicholas Peoples, known affectionately by various nicknames including 'Nyko,' 'Sonshine #1,' 'D-Nell,' 'Lil Darnell,' 'Nell,' 'Brodie,' and 'Boosie,' was born in Washington, D.C., on January 2, 1998. He was a man known for his infectious smile that could brighten even the darkest of moments. His family and friends remember him as a great protector, a loyal and hardworking individual with a great sense of humor. He was a creative soul who even fashioned his own tattoo tool and was known for his love of debate on any topic.
A graduate of D.C. Public and Charter schools, Darnell had a love for football, fishing, and dancing. He was remembered for his love for his family and was particularly close to his grandmothers. His passing has left a void in the lives of his parents, siblings, and a host of other relatives and friends. The investigation into his untimely death remains ongoing as his loved ones continue to mourn their loss.
