In the late morning of a Wednesday in Washington, D.C., violence shattered the midday calm in a Southeast apartment building. It was there that 34-year-old Antonio Burnette was shot and killed on March 29, 2023. The incident, which occurred around 11:44 a.m. in the 3000 block of 30th Street, SE, also left another man wounded.
Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting and discovered both victims inside an apartment, suffering from gunshot wounds.
First responders treated Burnette at the scene, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead. The second victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
In the aftermath of the shooting, authorities began their search for the person responsible. The only description provided of the suspect was that of a Black male who was wearing a mask and was seen fleeing the building. The motive for the shooting has not been released by officials.
The investigation into Antonio Burnette's death remains ongoing, and the Metropolitan Police Department has asked for the public's help in gathering more information. A reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this homicide. As of now, no arrests have been announced in the case, and a killer remains at large.
