In the early morning hours of Sunday, August 9, 2026, the life of 18-year-old Daremiah Banks was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire in Southeast, Washington, D.C. The fatal shooting occurred around 5:26 a.m. in the 1100 block of K Street, Southeast, a residential area near the Potomac Avenue Metro station. When officers from the First District arrived at the scene, they found Banks suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the immediate response from D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services, Daremiah was pronounced dead at the scene.
Surveillance footage from the neighborhood captured the harrowing moments of the attack. The video shows a silver sedan from which multiple shots were fired. In the footage, Banks can be seen with a group of people on scooters when the gunfire erupts. As the shots ring out, she falls to the ground while others scatter for safety.
The brazen shooting also left several nearby vehicles damaged by bullets, with one neighbor reporting that a bullet struck her window, just inches from where she was sitting.
The Metropolitan Police Department is actively investigating the homicide and has appealed to the public for assistance. Authorities are searching for three suspects who were seen in the silver sedan at the time of the shooting. While the motive for the shooting remains unclear, and it is not known if Banks knew her attackers, the police are piecing together the events that led to her death. A reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individuals responsible for the death of Daremiah Banks. As of now, no arrests have been made in the case, and the investigation continues.
