In the early morning hours of June 20, 2024, a dispute in the 4400 block of Hunt Place, Northeast, escalated into a fatal act of violence, claiming the life of 21-year-old Marcellus Jackson. The young man, a resident of Northeast, D.C., was found in the roadway by Metropolitan Police Department officers who responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 3:21 a.m.
Tragically, he had sustained a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the death of Marcellus Jackson swiftly led to the identification and apprehension of a suspect. On the very same day as the shooting, police arrested 32-year-old Antonio Johnson. Johnson, who was reported to have no fixed address, was initially charged with second-degree murder while armed in connection with the fatal incident. The shooting was reportedly preceded by a verbal argument between Johnson and Jackson outside an apartment building.
In the months that followed, the legal proceedings against Antonio Johnson unfolded. In December 2024, he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter while armed. The prosecution's case indicated that following a verbal dispute, Johnson ran into his child's mother's apartment, took her car keys, and fled the scene after shooting Jackson. On March 18, 2025, Antonio Johnson was sentenced to 17 years in prison for his role in the death of Marcellus Jackson.
