On a summer afternoon in Washington, D.C., the life of 17-year-old Jermaine Richards, Jr. was tragically cut short. On Sunday, July 30, 2017, at approximately 2:55 p.m., police responded to the 4400 block of Quarles Street, Northeast, for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered the young male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services found no signs of life, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Jermaine Richards, Jr.
was a resident of Southwest Washington.
The incident was one of several violent acts that occurred in the city over that weekend, prompting concern from city officials. In the days following the shooting, the Metropolitan Police Department actively investigated the homicide and sought assistance from the public in gathering information.
Less than two weeks later, an arrest was made in connection with the fatal shooting. On Tuesday, August 8, 2017, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended 23-year-old Tyrell T. Moody of Northeast Washington. Moody was arrested pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant and was subsequently charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed for his alleged involvement in the death of Jermaine Richards, Jr.
