A 43-year-old man, Daniel Joseph Roman, was fatally shot on September 23, 2024, in the parking lot of a QuikTrip in Surprise, Arizona, located near Bell Road and Loop 303. Emergency responders found him at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds.
The investigation into the shooting identified the gunman as 49-year-old Lucas Izzo. It was determined that Izzo was the ex-husband of the woman Roman was currently dating.
According to police, Izzo shot Roman without provocation because of Roman's relationship with his former wife. After shooting Roman, Izzo died by a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene, despite life-saving efforts by witnesses and responding officers. No one else was harmed in the incident.
Since the suspect took his own life, no arrests were made in connection with Roman's death. Roman had lived in Arizona since 1986 after moving from New Jersey. He had been a General Manager at QuikTrip for almost 22 years and was described as a respected leader and mentor. He is survived by his daughter, her mother, his own mother and her husband, as well as his sister and her wife. He was known for his love of family, traveling, camping, and following his favorite sports teams.
