On April 26, 2017, Corporal Stephen J. Ballard, a 32-year-old Delaware State Police officer, was fatally shot in the line of duty. While investigating a suspicious vehicle at a Wawa convenience store in Bear, Delaware, Corporal Ballard approached a red Dodge Charger occupied by two individuals.
