In the early morning hours of Valentine's Day in 2015, the life of Antonio Dujuan Billingsley, a 28-year-old Black/African American man, was tragically cut short in Anniston, Alabama. At approximately 3:40 a.m. on February 14, Anniston police officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 2900 block of Wilmer Avenue. Upon their arrival, they discovered Billingsley inside a vehicle, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel quickly transported him to Northeast Alabama
Regional Medical Center in an effort to save his life. Despite their efforts, Antonio Dujuan Billingsley was pronounced dead at the hospital. His death marked the second homicide in the city of Anniston for that year. The authorities immediately began an investigation, urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in bringing clarity to the violent event that had unfolded.
In the wake of the shooting, the Anniston Police Department worked to identify those responsible for Billingsley's death. Their investigation led to an arrest in connection with the fatal shooting. An Anniston resident was subsequently charged for their alleged involvement in the incident.
A funeral service to honor the memory of Antonio Dujuan Billingsley was held on February 21, 2015, at the Greater Thankful Baptist Church. He was laid to rest in Eden Hills Cemetery. He was survived by his wife, mother, and four children, leaving behind a family to grapple with their profound loss.
