In the early afternoon of December 4, 2021, the life of 33-year-old Christum D. Trammell, a Black/African American male from Anniston, Alabama, was tragically cut short. Anniston Police Department officers responded to a 911 call around 1:00 p.m. regarding a possible shooting in the 900 block of Woodland Court. Upon their arrival, they discovered Trammell lying in the roadway, having sustained a gunshot wound.
He was immediately transported to the Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center for emergency medical attention, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into Trammell's death quickly revealed that it was not a random act of violence. Authorities identified 22-year-old Keaton F. Lawson as the suspect, noting that he and Trammell were acquainted. Following the incident, Lawson fled, prompting a manhunt involving both the Anniston Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service. He was considered armed and dangerous. The search for Lawson extended beyond the borders of Alabama, and on December 9, 2021, he was apprehended by authorities in California. Lawson was taken into custody and awaited extradition back to Calhoun County, Alabama, to be formally charged with the murder of Christum Trammell.
Christum D. Trammell was a graduate of Anniston High School and was an employee at Georgia Pacific. His death left a void in the lives of many, including his numerous children, his parents, Kimberly Trammell and Gerald Hutchinson, his fiancée, Katrina Elston, and a host of siblings. A funeral service to honor his life was held on December 14, 2021, at the Greater Calvary Baptist Church, with his interment following at Eden Hills Cemetery.
