In the summer of 2016, the life of 15-year-old Kelvon Julius was tragically cut short on a street in Birmingham, Alabama. On June 4th, the young man, known to some as 'Pork Chop,' was shot and killed on 12th Street South. The violence that ended his life also left a young woman wounded.
Authorities investigated the shooting as a targeted act of retaliation, believing it was connected to another shooting that had occurred the previous year.
The investigation led to the identification of two suspects. One of the men, Carlos De'Juan McCain, faced charges of murder and attempted murder in connection with Kelvon's death. However, in 2017, a jury acquitted him of all charges.
While McCain was cleared, a second suspect in the case did not go to trial. This individual ultimately pleaded guilty for their role in the fatal shooting and received a 25-year prison sentence for their involvement in the death of Kelvon Julius.
