On a summer evening in Birmingham, Alabama, the life of 16-year-old Kavas Jemison, a Black male, was tragically cut short. On July 23, 2022, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the young man was discovered unresponsive in the back seat of a vehicle on Interstate 59/20 southbound, near the Bush Boulevard exit. First responders from the Birmingham Police Department and Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the scene, where they found that Jemison had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to his head and ...
