On July 23, 2022, at approximately 8:00 p.m., 16-year-old Kavas Jemison was found unresponsive in the back seat of a vehicle on Interstate 59/20 southbound near the Bush Boulevard exit in Birmingham, Alabama. Responding officers from the Birmingham Police Department discovered that Jemison had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced him dead at the scene.
