On August 19, 2019, at approximately 8:41 p.m., Birmingham police officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 1000 block of Gulfport Street in the Wylam neighborhood. Upon arrival, they discovered 18-year-old Calvin De'onte Vance lying unresponsive at the edge of the roadway, having suffered a fatal gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel, along with the Jefferson County Coroner, pronounced Vance deceased at the scene.
