Willie James Powell, 36, a Black male from Birmingham, Alabama, was shot on the afternoon of July 22, 2025, in the 3800 block of 4th Street West in North Birmingham’s Hooper City area. First responders found Willie James Powell unresponsive after reports of a person shot just after 3 p.m.; medics tried to save him and he was transported to UAB Hospital, where he died within the hour, shortly before 4 p.m. The Jefferson County Coroner identified the victim as Willie James Powell, 36.
