In the early hours of a Wednesday morning in June 2017, the body of 19-year-old Ullesis Keanu was discovered lying in a street in Birmingham, Alabama. A passerby spotted Keanu on the pavement at the intersection of B.Y. Williams Sr. Drive and Court R and immediately alerted the authorities. When Birmingham police and fire and rescue crews arrived on the scene at approximately 12:30 a.m. on June 14, they found the young man unresponsive, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators with the Birmingham Police Department believe that Keanu, a male resident of the city, was shot in a different location before his body was left in the street. Evidence suggests the shooting may have occurred in the neighboring city of Brighton. Detectives were actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting and working to identify a motive.
At the time of the initial reports, no suspects had been taken into custody, and police had not yet publicly identified any individuals they were seeking in connection with the homicide. The investigation into the death of Ullesis Keanu is ongoing.
